MATIAS SPESCHA
In the Monastery Church from 6.11.2010 to 25.4.2011

Matias Spescha, who died in 2008 at the age of eighty three, was a very quiet artist, and quietude was his theme. His work, an outstanding early and influential contribution to Swiss Tachism, is characterised by a progressive leaning towards asceticism. In formal and spiritual terms, one can speak of radicalism, given his concentration on black and white and his intrinsically pictorial alphabet. In his work, the genres of painting, graphic art and sculpture, including his last project OGNA for his home town of Trun, blend increasingly to become an installative shaping of contemplative spaces.
